WHEN TO VISIT VAL GARDENA

One of the questions we're asked most often is when the best time is to come and see us. The honest answer is: it depends what you're after. Here's how we see the seasons, from people who live here all year round.

WINTER (DECEMBER – MARCH)

Ski season, with the full Dolomiti Superski area open. December and the early-winter low season offer quieter slopes; the Christmas and New Year holidays and February weekends are the busiest times — if you're aiming for those dates, it's worth booking well ahead.

SPRING (APRIL – MAY)

Many lifts close once the ski season ends, and nature isn't yet at its greenest: this is the quietest time of year, ideal if you're after peace and more accessible prices, less suited if you want skiing or high-altitude hikes.

SUMMER (JUNE – SEPTEMBER)

The season for hiking, via ferrata and cycling the Sellaronda. July and August are the busiest months with the most stable weather; June and September offer quieter trails, still pleasant temperatures, and the best light for anyone who loves mountain photography.

AUTUMN (OCTOBER – NOVEMBER)

The transition period, with many facilities and lifts closed ahead of the snow. It's not the ideal time for an active holiday in Val Gardena, but the autumn colours in the woods around Santa Cristina are still a sight to see for anyone passing through.

Whatever time of year you have in mind, get in touch: we know the valley season by season and can give you tailored advice for when you're coming.
